COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
BREATHING APPARATUS, SELF-CONTAINED
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in lieu of Federal Specification GG-B-675.
This commercial item description covers self-contained breathing apparatus for respiratory protection in oxygen deficient or toxic atmospheres containing vapors or gases. They shall be of the following styles.
Style A- Demand type with audible warning device.
Style B- Pressure demand type with audible warning device.
Salient characteristics.
Compressed Air, one half (1/2) hour duration, open circuit design.
The apparatus shall be an individual respiratory protective device to provide the user with a respirable atmosphere from compressed gas cylinder(s). The apparatus shall consist of four major groups (1) the facepiece group, (2) the hose and regulator group, (3) cylinder and valve group, and (4) the backpack and harness group. A suitcase type carrying case, manual, part list, and wrench (if needed for connections) shall be furnished with each apparatus.
All like components used in the assembly of the breathing apparatus produced under the responsibility of a prime manufacturer (contractor) shall be interchangeable.
Unless otherwise specified color shall be manufacturer’s standard.
Conformance. Self-contained breaking apparatus furnished under this description shall comply with the requirements specified in 30 CFR 11. The breathing apparatus shall bear approval plates and marking for permissible apparatus and for approved supplemental parts as provided in 30 CFR 11 subpart D.
The issue of 30 CFR in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with stated requirements.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description, and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Recovered materials. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. The packaging and packing shall be in accordance with normal commercial practice and shall assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with the National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
