COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
MASK, AIR LINE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Type I of Federal Specification GGG-M-125/1.
This commercial item description covers air supplied respirators which shall provide protection from concentrations of toxic vapors, dusts metal fumes and mists.
Salient characteristics:
The respirator shall be either Style I or Style II, as specified.
Style I Half-mask Facepiece
Style II Full-mask Facepiece
Design. The respiratory shall assembly shall consist of the following major components: facepiece, either half or full mask, breathing tube, air regulating valve (optional), belt and air supply hose.
Air Supply Hose. The length of air supply hose shall be as specified.
Components. All like components used in the assembly of the respirator, produced under the responsibility of the prime manufacturer (contractor) shall be interchangeable.
Conformance. Respirators furnished under this description shall comply with the requirements specified in 30 CFR Part II. Respirator container or instruction sheet shall clearly display NIOSH/MSHA approval plate. All respirators and components shall be distinctly labeled as provided in 30 CFR Part II, Subpart D.
The issue of 30 CFR Part II in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with these requirements.
Workmanship. Respirator assemblies shall be clean, well made and free from any defects which may affect appearance, durability or serviceability.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description, and that the product conforms to the producers own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, and is the same product sold in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Regulatory Requirements. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Preservation, packaging, packing, and marking. The preservation, packaging, and packing shall be in accordance with normal commercial practice and shall assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with the National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Marking shall be as specified in the contractor order.
