COMMERCIAL ITEM CERTIFICATION
SHIELD, ARC VIEWING, HAND HELD
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Federal Specification GGG-H-211, type II.
This description covers a hand held shield which protects the face and head from heat, welding sppater and radiant energy.
Salient characteristics:
Shell. The shell shall be thermally insulating and meet the requirements for slow burning (para. 6.2.4 ANSI Z87.1):and shall transmit no more than a Shade 14 filter in the ultraviolet, visivle, and infrared regions; and be capable of withstanding disinfection.
Handle. The handle shall be made of a material that is a good insulator of heat and electricity, is non-metallic and slow burning (para. 6.2.4 ANSI Z87.1). the material shall not burn at a rate greater than 3-inches per minute. The handle shall be of such size and shape as to be held easily by one hand and shall be firmly attached to the lower portion of the shield.
Hardware. Any metal parts, including rivets, which extend through the shell of the shield and which might touch the wearers head or face, shall not be exposed on the inside of the shield . such metal parts shall be insulated by an overlap of nonconductive insulating material which compltely covers such metal parts.
Conformance. Shield shall comply with the requiremets in American National Standards Institute (ANSI) 287.1. The issue of ANSI in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with this requirement.
Workmanship: The shields shall be such that there are no sharp edges or burrs. The shield shall be free of any defects which may affect the durability, appearance or seviceability.
Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent practicable.
Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking. The preservation, packaging, packing, labeling and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
