COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
GOGGLES, INDUSTRIAL
(EYECUP, COVER-CUP TYPE)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers industrial goggles for protection of the eyes of the wearer from flying objects, and when fitted with proper lenses, to protect the eyes of the wearer from glare, injurious radiations and impact.
Salient characteristics:
Goggles shall be of the following classes and types as specified:
Class A – Chippers
Class B – Welders
Type I – Filter Shade No. 4
Type II – Filter Shade No. 6
Goggles shall consist of tow eyecups of rigid plastic material connected by a flexible adjustable nose bridge, replaceable lenses, lens seats, lens retaining rings and an adjustable, readily replaceable elastic headband.
Shall not interfere with the wearing of spectacles.
Shall be ventilated and designed generally contour to the shape of the face, covering completely the eye sockets, offering both frontal and side protection.
Class A goggles shall be provided with two clear plate glass lenses.
Class B goggles shall be provided with two filler lenses of the type specified in the solicitation or invitation and two cover lenses.
Conformance. Goggles shall comply with the eye protection requirements of ANSI Z87.1.
Workmanship. Goggle assembles shall be free from any defect which may affect appearance, durability or serviceability.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description, and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, and is the same product sold in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Regulatory requirements. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. The items shall be packaged in accordance with normal commercial practice and packed assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with the National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Shipping containers shall be marked as specified in the contract or order.
