COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
MASK, GAS (INDUSTRIAL)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description in preference to Federal Specification GGG-M-131, Types B and N.
This commercial item description covers gas masks used to protect the wearer from gases only, or gases and particulate matter commonly encountered in industrial applications. They shall be provided in the following type and styles:
Type B- Organic vapors.
Type N- Combination of acid gas, ammonia, carbon monoxide, and organic vapors.
Style 1- Front mounted canister.
Style 2- Back mounted canister.
Salient characteristics.
Each gas mask shall be provided with the following component parts:
1) Facepiece with panoramic lenses.
2) Canister.
3) Canister harness.
4) External check valve.
5) Breathing tube.
The individual gas mask assemblies shall be furnished in a suitable carrying case, with instruction, and one extra canister.
All like components used in the assembly of the gas mask produced under the responsibility of a prime contractor (manufacturer) shall be interchangeable.
Conformance. Gas masks furnished under this description shall comply with the requirements specified in 30 CFR Chapter 11, Subpart I. The gas mask shall bear approval plates and marking for permissible apparatus and for approved supplemental parts as provided in 30 CFR Chapter 11, Subpart D. The issue of 30 CFR in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with the stated requirements.
Workmanship. The gas masks shall be free of defects which may affect the durability, appearance, or serviceability.
Regulatory requirements. In accordance with section 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulations, the Government’s policy is to acquire items composed of the highest percentage of recovered materials practicable, consistent with maintaining a satisfactory level of competition without adversely affecting performance requirements or exposing supplier’s employees to undue hazards from the recovered materials.
