3. REQUIREMENTS
3.1 Design. As a minimum, faceshields furnished under this commercial item description shall conform to the requirements of ANSI Z87.1 for faceshields with non-removable windows. The faceshields shall have a headgear system for wearing on the head. There shall be a crown protector above the clear window. The entire window and crown protector/window unit shall be capable of rotating up out of the wearer’s visual way by pivot points on the headgear placed approximately over each ear when properly worn. The crown protector/window shall be limited in travel and retained in the up and down positions at the pivot points. Whether or not the window is actually removable is at the contractor’s option.
3.2 Material. The faceshield shall be composed of non-sparking and non-conductive materials. The portions that will be in contract with the wearer shall be composed of materials non-irritating to the skin.
3.3 Window. The window shall be clear and colorless. The size of the window free of the frame shall be 39.0 cm minimum side to side, measured at the point of attachment to the crown protector, and 19.0 cm minimum high overall, measured in the center of the window. The window thickness shall be sufficient to meet the applicable requirements of ANSI Z87.1, but shall be not less than 1.25 mm.
3.4 Crown protector. The crown protector shall be the portion that actually is attached to the pivot points and in turn supports the window.
