3.2 Goggles. The goggles shall consist of two separate eyecups connected over the nose with a nose bridge, connected around the back of the head with an adjustable elastic strap, and a cover to protect the nose. The goggles eyecups shall be indirectly ventilated. The goggles shall be composed of a plastic that will not be affected by the liquids and gasses normally encountered in chipping, grinding and welding operations. The goggles shall be shaped to provide front and side protection to the eyes and a universal fit on the wearer’s face. The goggles shall have sufficient adjustment in the headband and the nose bridge to fit any size face. The goggles shall be designed to securely hold round lenses 50.0 mm in diameter. Lenses supplied with the goggles shall be supplied installed.
3.2.1 Chipper’s goggles, class 1. Class 1 goggles shall be supplied with a pair of clear impact lenses and a pair of clear cover lenses, or two pairs of clear impact lenses.
3.2.2 Welder’s goggles, class 2. Class 2 goggles shall be supplied with a pair of filter lenses, either shade 4 or shade 6 as specified, and a pair of clear cover lenses or clear impact lenses.
3.3 Lenses. The lenses shall be round, 50.0 + 0.2 mm in diameter.
3.3.1 Clear impact lens. Clear impact lenses shall be clear and meet the requirements of ANSI Z87.1.
3.3.2 Shade 4. Shade 4 lenses shall meet the requirements of ANSI Z87.1 and be permanently tinted to shade Number 4.
3.3.3 Shade 6. Shade 6 lenses shall meet the requirements of ANSI Z87.1 and be permanently tinted to shade Number 6.
3.3.4 Cover lens. Cover lenses shall be clear and meet the requirements of ANSI
Z87.1 for cover lenses.
3.3.5 Marking. Each lens shall be marked as required by ANSI Z87.1
3.4 Workmanship. The goggles shall be smooth with no projections that may injure a user or catch on clothing. The lenses shall be smooth, flawless and optically clean. There shall be no defects that may affect appearance or serviceability.
4. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS
4.1 Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable, in accordance with paragraph 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR).
5. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS
5.1 Product conformance. The products provided shall meet the salient characteristics of this CID, shall conform to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, and shall be the same product offered for sale in the commercial market. The government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance.
