COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
BELT, SAFETY (LINEMAN’S)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description in preference to Federal Specification KK-B-151H, Type I.
The lineman’s belt covered by this description is intended for use by linemen or electricians in the installation or repair of transmission, distribution or communication lines.
The belts shall be furnished in the following sizes, as specified:
Size-
34-34 inch (+) or (-) 1/2 inch waist, D size 18
36-36 inch (+) or (-) 1/2 inch waist, D size 19
38-38 inch (+) or (-) 1/2 inch waist, D size 20
40-40 inch (+) or (-) 1/2 inch waist, D size 21
42-42 inch (+) or (-) 1/2 inch waist, D size 22
44-44 inch (+) or (-) 1/2 inch waist, D size 23
46-46 inch (+) or (-) 1/2 inch waist, D size 24
48-48 inch (+) or (-) 1/2 inch waist, D size 25
Salient characteristics:
The lineman’s belt shall consist primarily of a body pad, “D” ring strap, waist strap and tool loops.
Body Pad. The body pad backing shall be harness leather, nylon fabric or webbing of piled construction and of a color furnished commercially by the manufacturer. The nylon fabric or webbing shall be impregnated with neoprene. The body side shall be lined with chrome leather or synthetic of proves quality, equal or superior strength and durability, having rolled edges and no exposed rivets. The body pad shall have a width nor less than 4-1/2 inches and a length not less than the “D” size (as specified) plus the “D” rings. If circle “D” rings are used, the “D” rings may extend a maximum of 1 inch beyond the body pad on each end.
Integral Tabs. The body shall be provided with two integral tabs for the attachment of tool carriers, one on the left side and one on the right side.
“D” Ring Strap. The “D” ring strap shall be made of the piled nylon cloth or webbing and shall be either treated with polyvinyl butyral or neoprene impregnated. The individual plies shall be folded so that no cut edges are exposed and shall be impregnated and vulcanized so that the plies are not readily separable except by chemical means.
Circle “D” Rings. The “D” rings shall be made of forged steel and either zinc or cadmium plated. The “D” rings shall have no sharp edges.
“D” Size. Distance between “D” ring heels. Tolerance shall be (+) or (-) 1/2 inch.
Waist Strap. The waist strap shall be made of piled nylon cloth and shall be secured to the body pad “D” ring assembly by a loop or loops. The length from the buckle end to the center adjustment hole of the other end of the belt shall equal the waist size designation (as specified).
Buckle. Body strap buckle frames shall be fabricated of a forging quality steel by the forge process. The buckles shall be either cadmium or zinc plated. They shall be reasonably smooth and no sharp edges will be permitted. The buckles shall be free from any defects.
