COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
TOOL, FORCED ENTRY AND RESCUEM 20,000 POUNDS
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This description covers a gasoline engine powered, hydraulic operated forced entry and rescue tool.
Salient characteristics:
Design: The tool shall be designed for spreading and pulling by means of two arms acting in a scissors type action. The two arms acting together shall produce a minimum force of not less than 20,000 pounds when measured 1 inch from the tip of the arms and shall have an opening width of not less than 26 inches. The arms shall be designed for attachment of special accessory equipment used for tearing; chain attachment for pulling by fire departments during automotive and aircraft extrication of personnel. The tool shall be designed for one man operation and shall weigh not more than 46 pounds less the weight of the power pack and hoses and accessory equipment. Operating controls shall be of the dead man type, stopping all hydraulic action without further movement when released by the operator.
Power pack: The power pack shall be a hydraulic pump operated by a 4 cycle air cooled gasoline engine. The engine, hydraulic pump and oil reservoir shall be mounted in a carrying frame assembly as one unit. The unit shall weigh no more than 75 pounds including hydraulic hoses and valve arrangement necessary to operate the tool. Not less than 15 feet of properly sized hydraulic connecting hose with quick disconnect fitting shall be furnished with each pack. The tool shall operate on petroleum base hydraulic oil.
Hydraulic power pack: The tool shall be equipped with a hydraulic pump, oil reservoir, safety relief valves, lines, and fitting to operate as specified. Hydraulic lines shall be designed so that they cannot be connected incorrectly. Safety relief valves shall be set and sealed by the manufacturer to a pressure equal or below the maximum working pressure of all hydraulic operated components. The reservoir shall form the base mounting for the hydraulic pump and gasoline engine.
Engine: The rescue tool shall be powered by a 4 cycle air cooled, rope start, gasoline engine. The engine shall operate on fuel conforming to ASTM D 439. The engine shall be direct coupled to the hydraulic pump.
