3.11.3.2 Visible transmittance. The uncoated style b plates shall transmit
not less than 89 percent of incident visible light; the plastic-coated style b
plates shall transmit not less than 75 percent of incident visible light, and
the plastic style b plates shall transmit not less than 86 percent of incident
visible light when tested as specified in 4.2.4.11.
3.11.3.3 Water resistance. The style b plate plastic coating shall be
resistant to water when tested as specified in 4.2.4.15.
3.11.4 Style c plates.
3.11.4.1 Physical characteristics. Style c plates shall be the same peri-
pheral size and shape as the style a and style b plates, and shall be clear and
either heat-treated glass or plastic. The contractor shall certify that these
requirements have been met.
Glass plates shall be not less than 3.0 mm thick nor

Plastic plates shall be not less than 1.2 mm thick.

3.11.403 Impact resistance. Style c plates shall not fracture when tested
for impact resistance as specified in 4.2.4.12.
3.11.4.4 Penetration. Plastic style c plates shall not be pierced through
when tested for resistance to penetration as specified in 4.2.4.16.
3.12 Workmanship. The helmets, handshields, and plates shall have no sharp
edges or burrs and shall be free from any other defects which detract from
their appearance or which may impair their proper usage or serviceability
QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS

4.1 Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the con-
tract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of
all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified
--
in the contract or purchase order, the contractor may use his own or any other
facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements speci-
fied herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government reserves the
right to perform any of the inspections set forth in the specification where
--
such inspections are deemed necessary to assure supplies and services conform
to prescribed requirements.
4.2 Quality conformance inspection.
4.2.1 Lotting. A lot shall consist of all items of one type, class, and
style, offered for delivery at one time.
