5,1 Preservation and pa ckaging. levels shall be as specified (see 6.2).
5.1.1 Level A. All packages shall be of the- minimum cube required to
contain the items.
5.1.1.1 Repairing. Metal surfaces on which paint is damaged or chipped
shall be treated and repainted in conformance with type A of MIL-T-704.
5.1.1.2 Cap screws and washers. These items shall be packaged in a heat
sealable interior packaging bag conforming to type III, class B of
MIL-B-117.
5.1.1.3 Technical publications. One copy of technical publications
shall be packaged in accordance with method IC-3 of MIL-P-116.
5.1.1.4 Protective entrance. The protective entrance shall be folded
and placed inside of the container (Drawing E5-19-1791, which is listed
on Drawing DL5-19-1791) provided. Internal bracing and blocking shall
be added as required to prevent movement of the item. The hinges on the
protective entrance container door shall be oiled with type P-9 preservative
oil, conforming to MIL-P-116. Excessive preservative oil shall be wiped
off. Items packaged as specified in 5.1.1.2 and 5.1.1,3 shall be secured
to the inside of the container door with pressure sensitive tap conforming
to class 1 of PPP-T-60. The items so secured shall not interfere with the
door. The container doors shall then be closed and secured by the
catch provided. The corners of the container shall be cushioned, as
required, to prevent rupturing the waterproofing barrier material wrap.
The container shall then be enclosed within a waterproof wrap fabricated
from case liner or crate liner waterproofed kraft wrapping paper con-
forming to W-P-271. All folds, laps, and seams of the waterproof wrap
shall be sealed with waterproof adhesive conforming to MMM-A-260.
5.1.2 Level C. The protective entrance shall be folded and placed
inside the container (Drawing E5-19-1791) provided and the necessary
internal cushioning and blocking added to prevent movement of the item.
Items packaged as specified in 5.1.1.2 and 5.1.1.3 shall be secured to the
door of the-container in the manner specified in 5.1.1.4. The container
shall then be closed and secured by the catch provided.
Levels shall be as specified (see 6,2).
5.2 Packing.
5.2.1 Level A. The protective entrance, preserved and packaged as
specified in 5.1.1 shall be packed in a type II, style A, open wood crate,
