such as test units, components, serial numbers, Julian date, lot numbers, contract
number, etc.
6.3 DMMP and CK life tests. Samples for these tests should be forwarded by the contractor,
together with DD Form 1222, to Director, U.S. Army Edgewood, Chemical Biological Center,
ATTN: AMSSB-RRT-CC, Building E5165, Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD 21010-5424.
6.4 Leakage detector. The halide leak detector, model F1000, manufactured by Nucon, Inc.
has been found suitable for this purpose. When using this detector, the presence of high vapor
pressure halogenated contaminants in the refrigerant could interfere with the filter leak test,
resulting in false indications of filter leakage. Should false leakage indications be suspected,
the refrigerant should be checked for the presence of such contaminants.
6.5 Adsorbent media. Although manufacturers may consider using alternate adsorbent me
dia, development tests comparable to those done on ASZM-TEDA adsorbent specified by
EA-DTL-1704 must first be performed by the contractor, and then approved for use by the
Government. Contractors are forewarned that such testing, which includes gas life capacity
testing using a variety of chemical agents before and after open-air environmental exposure,
may be lengthy and costly. All such costs will probably be borne by the contractor, including
costs for Government testing
6.6 Drying of filters. Filters not meeting the moisture requirement may be dried by passing
contaminant free air at a temperature not to exceed 100°C through the filters.
6.7 Gasket. A wool felt gasket has been successfully used in the past as a seal on the inside
flange of the filter body on the outlet side of the filter.

6.9 Manufacture. The following method of manufacture has been found to produce a satis
factory filter. This procedure is furnished with the distinct understanding that the supplier is not
required to follow the method, that the provisions of this specification must be met regardless
of the method of manufacture, and that the Government does not guarantee that material made
in accordance with the method will pass the specification requirement.
