MIL-PRF-14512L(EA)
should be placed in position on a suitable gravity type filling machine.
(b)
A measured amount of properly screened carbon conforming to EA-DTL-1704
should be fed gradually and uniformly from a height of 2 feet into the container.
(c)
The second perforated sorbent retainer assembly should be put over the carbon and a
retainer should be placed on top.
(d)
A 1000 pound load should be uniformly applied to the retainer and, while under load,
the retainer should be spot welded to the container.
The weight of carbon required to properly fill the container will vary according to the bulk
density and moisture content. The required weight has been found to be approximately 1-7/8
pounds, however, a volumetric measure will vary much less than a gravimetric measure. It is ad
visable to predetermine experimentally the required amount of carbon to fill a container so that
the dimensions specified on Drawing 5-19-2295 are met after the weight load has been applied
to the retainer.
