*3.2.3 Intermediate container. The intermediate container shall be
fabricated from film conforming to Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company
Part No. MMM, Medpar 1.001 (film) or equal. All edges of the container shall
be heat sealed using the seal conditions suggested by the manufacturer of the
film. The width of the heat seal on all edges shall be not less than � inch.
One edge of the heat seal shall contain a breather strip.
*3.2.3.1 Breather strip. The breather strip shall be fabricated from material conforming to MIL-C-557. The breather strip shall extend outward through the heat seal, inward not less than � inch beyond the inside of the heat seal, and shall be � inch in width.
*3.2.4 Compass. The compass shall conform to MIL-C-6235.
*3.2.5 Fish hooks. Fish hooks shall be equal to Eagle Claw No. 139 for size
8 and No. 84 for size 4 (manufactured by the Wright and McGill Co., 1400
Yosemite, Denver, Colorado). All hooks shall be equipped with a nylon snell
at least 6 inches long. The snells tied to the size 8 and 4 hooks shall have
a minimum breaking strength of 6 and 8 pounds, respectively.
*3.2.6 Knife. The knife shall conform to the Schrade Walden Mfg Co Part No.
301 or equal.
*3.2.7 Water bag (prophylactic). The water bag shall conform to the Trojan
No. 70, Rolled Prophylactic, Hermetically Sealed, Nonlubricated, or equal. The
water bags shall conform in all respects to the regulations and requirements
for the manufacture of latex prophylactics of the Food and Drug Administration
of the U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare.
*3.2.8 Safety matches. The matches shall conform to type I of EE-M-101.
*3.2.9 Needles. Needles shall conform to FF-N-180, type I, class 1, style C with a length of 2-1/2 inches. The eye of the needle shall be elliptical in shape, and the minimum allowable width and length of the eye shall be 0.020 and 1.187 inch, respectively.
*3.2.10 Fire starting pads. The fire starting pads shall conform to 44A8838 and shall meet the requirements of MIL-S-13175. They may be trimmed to a width not less than 5/8 inch if required to meet packaging requirements. The trimming cut if required, shall be made at an angle of 90 degrees to the striker edge.
*3.2.11 Wire. The wire shall be 20 feet of 0.0020 inch diameter corrosion resistant steel. The wire must easily bend over a quarter inch mandrel, hold its shape without breaking and shall not spring back over 30 percent from the bent condition.
*3.2.12 Striker strip. The striker strip shall conform to the performance requirements of EE-M-101 except that dimensions shall be 1 inch in length by
5/8 inch in width, and that it shall be mounted on solid, nonresistant paper- board conforming to PPP-B-566.
3.2.13 Instructions and contents sheet. The instruction and contents sheet shall be provided in the inner container. The sheet shall be made with parchment paper. One side of the sheet shall contain the following information.
