After lapse of this time, the kit shall be removed from the chamber and dried by air blast. The kit shall then be opened and the interior survival components inspected for moisture. Any evidence of moisture shall be cause for rejection.
4.4.5 Pull test. A kit complete with contents shall be tested to determine the amount of force required to pull open the outer container. The pull shall be measured by means of a tensile tester.
4.5 Preproduction testing.
4.5.1 Preproduction test sample tested by the contractor. The contractor shall subject two survival kits to the preproduction tests specified in 4.5.5.
*4.5.2 Preproduction test report. After the contractor completes the prepro- duction tests, he shall prepare a preproduction test report according to MIL- STD-813 and furnish a complete copy of the report to the procuring activity.
4.5.3 Preproduction test sample for the procuring activity. Along with the preproduction test report, the contractor shall submit two untested samples to the procuring activity.
*4.5.4 Preproduction tests. Preproduction tests shall consist of all tests described in 4.4.1 through 4.4.5.
5. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY
*5.1 Preservation and packaging. Preservation and packaging shall be level A
or C as specified (see 6.2).
*5.1.1 Level A. Prior to preservation and packaging, all components listed in Table I shall be thoroughly cleaned and dried in accordance with the applicable process of MIL-P-116 and then placed in the outer container. The outer container, when closed, shall be packaged one each in accordance with method IC-1 of MIL-P-116.
*5.1.1.1 Intermediate packaging. Fifty kits packaged in accordance with
5.1.1 shall be placed in an intermediate container conforming 5o PPP-B-636.
Closing and sealing of the container shall be in accordance with the
applicable container specification and appendix thereto.
*5.1.2 Level C. Components assembled and sealed in the outer container as specified in 3.4 shall be packaged in accordance with manufacturer's commercial practice.
*5.2 Packing. Packing shall be level A, B, or C as specified (see 6.2).
*5.2.1 Level A. Kits preserved and packaged as specified in 5.1 shall be packed in overseas-type containers conforming to PPP-B-636. Closing and sealing of the containers shall be in accordance with the applicable container specification and appendix thereto. Containers shall be of minimum weight and cube, shall be of uniform size and shape, and shall contain like quantities, when practical.
*5.2.2 Level B. Packing for level B shall be the same as specified in 5.2.1, except that the containers shall be domestic type and closure shall be in accordance with the requirements for domestic-type containers.
